Cake and Pie Case, 2023,
Oil on panel, 36" x 72"
Clay Vorhes is a whimsical painter whose work invites viewers into a world where beauty meets structure and delight meets discipline in sumptuous oil paintings where texture and form are heightened to near-sculptural intensity.
Vorhes came to painting in 2002, as a second career in his mid-30s when he became a protégé of Wayne Thiebaud, whose influence was so significant it changed the course of Vorhes's life and work.
Vorhes has exhibited in numerous solo and group presentations at Skidmore Contemporary Art and Gerald Peters Contemporary in Santa Fe, the Museum of Northern California Art, the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Crocker Art Museum, Laguna Art Museum, the Morris Graves Museum of Art, and art fairs including artMRKT San Francisco and ArtHamptons. His work is held by private collector across the United States and Europe.
