Courtney Murphy’s dramatic and atmospheric canvases portray the strength and beauty of feminine sensuality. Her figures intimately depict self-possessed women adorned in billowing fabrics rendered in vibrant color with exceptional skill.
Courtney is a Professor of Art at Long Beach City College, as well as Moorpark College, and California State University Long Beach. She holds an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art where she studied anatomy, contemporary painting, and the techniques of the classical masters. She previously attended the Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art in Brittany, France as well as The Art Center in Pasadena, and the California Art Institute.
Courtney’s work has appeared in juried, group and solo exhibitions at Sotheby’s Auction House, Laguna Art Museum, Carnegie Art Museum, and New York Academy of Art. Her work appears in American Art Collector Magazine, The Ventura County Reporter, ArtLtd, and Hyperallergic.
